Kendrick Lamar Duckworth (born June 17, 1987) is an American hip hop recording artist from Compton, California. Lamar embarked on his musical career as a teenager under the moniker K-Dot, and released a mixtape which garnered local attention and led to his signing with Carson-based independent record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). Lamar began to gain major recognition in 2010 after his first retail release, Overly Dedicated. The following year, he released Section.80, his first independent album, exclusively through iTunes. The album spawned Lamar's debut single, "HiiiPoWeR", and was instantly ranked as one of the top digital hip hop releases of the year. By that time, Lamar had amassed a large internet following and had already worked with several prominent artists in the hip hop industry, including The Game, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, and Busta Rhymes.
Lamar later secured a recording contract with a major label in 2012, when he signed with Aftermath and Interscope Records. His major-label debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, was released in October 2012 to universal acclaim. The record contained the top 40 singles "Swimming Pools (Drank)", "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe", and "Poetic Justice". Upon its release, the album debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In early 2013, MTV named Lamar the No. 1 "Hottest MC in the Game" on their annual list. His third studio album's lead single, "i", earned him his first two Grammy Awards at the 2015 ceremony: Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. In March 2015, Lamar released To Pimp a Butterfly, incorporating elements of funk, spoken word poetry and jazz in his sound for the record. It topped the charts in various countries, including the U.S. and the UK. Apart from his solo career, Lamar is also known as a member of the West Coast hip hop supergroup Black Hippy, alongside his TDE labelmates and fellow South Los Angeles-based rappers Ab-Soul, Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q.

DJ E-MONSTA reacted to GreenHitz.com in JR Castro Ft. Kid Ink & Migos - Get Home
As a kid growing up in the rough North Town neighborhood of Las Vegas, Castro fell under the spell of R&B music, thanks to his father. “My dad would play Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Midnight Star, The Commodores, and Prince all day every day,” he says. He first became interested in singing himself when he noticed that it impressed the girls. “I had two friends in junior high who would sing to the girls at lunchtime,” Castro recalls. “It tripped me out. It made me really want to try it. I actually sounded kind of decent and I realized, ‘I can actually do this.’ I started loving it. Next thing you know, there was nothing else I wanted to do.”
When Castro realized he could sing, he gravitated toward artists like Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, and Usher, and took notes on what they were doing. Aside from singing, he also loved to draw, seeing his artistic endeavors as an escape from the harsh realities of his daily life. “You can’t show any kind of softness, coming from the ‘hood,” he says. “It’s considered weak and is frowned upon. I was fearful of stepping outside the box and being different because people judge you. Where I come from, people are always preying on weakness. The odds are against someone like me in North Town. You either work in the casino or at a fast-food joint. Or you're a drug dealer or a pimp. Those are the options we got. I've always had a creative mindset and have always wanted to express myself in a way that felt fairytale-ish to some people. But to me it wasn't a fairytale. I always knew that I could make it a reality in some kind of way.”
He has done just that with the upcoming release of The Mixtape EP and its lead-off single, “Get Home.” Tall and chiseled, with a smile that takes up half his face, Castro has the charisma, talent, and vision to bring R&B back to the pop charts. But the 26-year-old singer and songwriter’s story has all the epic twists and turns of a movie, complete with death, divorce, broken dreams, and the redemptive spirit of a mentor who appeared just when those dreams began to feel like a distant memory.
Castro got his first break in the music industry with the vocal group I-15, who were signed to Polow Da Don’s Zone 4 imprint with Interscope Records. The group achieved some success with their 2007 single “Lost in Love,” but disbanded soon after. “I went back to Vegas from Atlanta without a penny in my pocket,” he says. At the same time, Castro was grieving over the recent death of his mother, who had been struggling with a serious illness for many years. In addition, his wife was pregnant with their first child. Castro knew he had to do whatever it took to make a living. “It was a really depressing time,” he says. “My mom had passed, I was about to be a first-time father, and the group had broken up. I felt like all that hard work I had invested was for nothing. So music wasn’t even a factor. It wasn’t even on my radar. I was in a really dark place. I didn’t want anything to do with music because I had a kid on the way and music wasn’t going to put food on the table. I didn’t feel like I had any right to be in a recording studio.”
Castro hustled to make ends meet. He unloaded trucks for FedEx, worked in the Tire & Lube Express at Wal-Mart, and took a job at a Converse shoe store. When those didn’t work out he drove a bus and worked in the warehouse at the Golden Nugget Casino. Eventually, his marriage fell apart, and now with two daughters to support, he put all his dreams aside. “I woke up feeling like shit every day, but I had to keep a smile on my face because I couldn’t let my kids down,” he says. “The music business is a gamble, and, as a man, you gotta provide by any means necessary. So, if it meant putting music to the side, so be it.”
Over the next few years, Castro tried to pull himself up. “I did a lot of things I’m not proud of,” he says, “but I told myself that I was doing what I had to do to provide for my kids.” While pushing through the adversity, Castro launched a successful SEO company with a friend (the income from it now provides for his family). He also continued to write and record songs, but resisted doing anything with them, even when his inner circle insisted they preferred his music to what they were hearing on the radio. “I didn’t want to deal with the business part of the music,” he says.
It took an unlikely meeting with hip-hop heavyweight Timbaland to lure Castro back into the game he loved. The two met backstage at Justin Timberlake’s final show in Vegas in August 2014 when Tim, noticing the energy and natural pull Castro had on mutual friends in the room, approached Castro out of the blue and said, "’Yo, man, what's your name? Where you from? You a rapper or a singer or something,’” Castro recalls. “I told him I sang a bit and he said, ‘Man, listen. Take my information down. I’m working at The Palms while I’m out here. Slide through so we can build.’” Castro did exactly that. He played Timbaland some records and soon after, Castro and his crew flew out to Tim's studio in Virginia Beach to work on tracks.
“It was meeting Timbaland that really made me believe in myself again,” says Castro, adding that he grew up listening to Timbaland and the records he made with Aaliyah, Ginuwine, and Missy Elliott. “He told me straight up that he hadn’t felt this feeling toward any kind of male R&B artist in a long time. That the last time was with Ginuwine. When he said that, it made me feel like my mother was speaking to me through him. She really believed in me. She was the first one who reassured me that I was good enough to compete with the majors. So when Timbaland and I had that conversation backstage, I knew I had to either stop doing what I was doing in the streets or continue to live that life and just let this dream pass me by. He basically gave me the push to get back into this. It was like he hooked his jumper cables up to mine and revved me up and I’m good now. Focused!”
Timbaland, who produced “FMN” on The Mixtape EP, is one of the many hit-making producers who have lined up to work with Castro. His other collaborators include DJ Mustard (who produced “Get Home,”) DJ Camper (“MOB”), and Polow the Don (“How You Do”). Castro has also been in the studio with Mike Will Made-It, Nic Nac, The Audibles, and Boi-1da, working on tracks that will be featured on his upcoming debut album. And this time, Castro will have complete control of the music, marketing, and branding — having formed an independent company, PMG, with the same core group of friends who held him down while back in Vegas.
On The Mixtape EP, Castro sets his soulful falsetto to seductive songs that explore places where romance and sexuality intersect, but he turns up the heat several notches, displaying a youthful street vibe that will appeal to listeners raised on hip-hop. “Lately, R&B music is rarely geared toward one woman,” he says. “It's always talking about sleeping with this girl, then that one, then on to the next. That doesn't make women feel special. And I think that’s why women conduct themselves like men these days. They’re player-types, too, because they’re influenced by the music. It's like that saying, ‘If you can't beat ’em, join ’em.’ And I think that's what's missing. We need to get back to making women feel special. That was my whole goal with the mixtape. I want to be the voice of what’s been missing.”
First single “Get Home” (featuring Kid Ink and Quavo of the Migos) is based on Faith Evans’ 1995 hit “Soon as I Get Home.” “I just love that song,” Castro says. “My sisters would play it all the time. My version’s a bit more X-rated. I'm just taking off all of the disguises and giving you the raw, naked truth of what's really going to happen.” Indeed on “Get Home,” “FMN,” and “Different Strokes,” Castro doesn’t shy away from being sexually explicit. (Neither did his idols Prince, Maxwell, and D’Angelo). “The lyrics are very provocative,” he admits, “but at the same time, they’re about love. There are many faces to loving someone. I’m just speaking what every guy who’s in love with a girl feels, from the nastiest things you want to say, to the sweetest things, it's all on here, and I think people will appreciate it. I want women listening to it to feel sexy and beautiful and special. I want them to feel like they're the most important thing in the world to someone. And if men don’t have the words to say it, they should play their lady the mixtape. I want to help them get their message across. Maybe a couple of babies will be made in the process,” he says with a smile.

DJ E-MONSTA reacted to GreenHitz.com in Velate' - Sore Loser
Great artists know that it’s never enough to think outside the box – you have to act outside of it. Thinking without action is passive, and Atlanta-based R&B mastermind Velate is too much of a warrior to sit back and let success come to him. Fueled with urgency and an insatiable desire to prove his worth, the up-and-coming artist has made ripples across Georgia, working with the region’s most notable producers, and winning over fans with his compelling songwriting and unforgettable hooks.
Raised in Detroit and relocated to Atlanta in 2005, Andrew "Velate" Spencer has always been around music. Growing up in Michigan in a household that played Marvin Gaye, Baby Face, Luther Vandross, and Aretha Franklin, he later found inspiration in R. Kelly, Boyz II Men, and Usher. And while he performed in the church choir at the age of 9, his true foray to the stage began in high school. “What first inspired me to perform was a talent show I did,” he explains. “The reaction of the crowd was a feeling I had never felt before. I made my decision right then and there that I wanted to be a performer.”
Full of ambition, Velate moved to Atlanta after high school to pursue a career in music – and his decision seems to have paid off. He’s worked with renowned producers such as Kenny Hickson (Boyz II Men, Carl Thomas) and Bolo Da Producer (Future, Jamie Fox), released a mixtape with local rapper King Shump (titled "Game Recognize Game") that went viral online, and his single "Sore Loser" debuted at #25 on the DRT National Airplay Top 80 Independent Chart, #20 on the DRT National R&B/Hip Hop Charts, and #182 on DRT National Top 200. He’s also written music for hip hop sensation Silento', and is a frequent collaborator with numerous Atlanta rappers.
But his success hasn’t come easy, and Velate always seems to be staring adversity in the face and overcoming obstacles. In February 2015, his brother Alexander Spencer Jr. tragically died, causing his entire life to crumble. "My older brother Alex was my world," he says. "His only dream was for me to live my dream."
And living that dream is what Velate plans to do. Currently working on new material, he’s turning his misfortune into fortune. “I want people to know that it's okay to be vulnerable, it's okay to display complete honesty in your music. Because the pain you do share might heal someone else's.”

DJ E-MONSTA reacted to GreenHitz.com in Rick Ross Ft. Chris Brown - Sorry
Tattooed with pictures of AK-47s, Miami's six-foot, 300-pound rap figure known as Rick Ross embraced his city's reputation for drug trafficking on his debut single, "Hustlin'," in 2006. While Atlanta and Houston artists were establishing their cities as Southern strongholds, Ross aimed at putting Miami back in rap's national spotlight. Ross, real name William Roberts, grew up in Carol City, Florida, an impoverished northern suburb of Miami. Influenced by artists like Luther Campbell and the Notorious B.I.G., Roberts formed local rap group the Carol City Cartel and began rapping in the mid-'90s. (He took his rap name from Los Angeles drug kingpin "Freeway" Rick Ross, who ran one of the largest crack cocaine distribution networks in the country during the '80s and early '90s.) Ross had a brief stint on Suave House Records, former label of Eightball & MJG, before he ended up on Miami-based Slip 'N' Slide Records, the label home of Trick Daddy and Trina. During the early to mid-2000s, he became popular and well-known locally through touring with Trick Daddy and appearing as a guest on a few Slip 'N' Slide releases, but didn't release any solo material until 2006. Once "Hustlin'" caught the ear of a few executives within the national industry, a bidding war ensued that included offers from Bad Boy CEO Sean "Diddy" Combs and The Inc. (formerly Murder Inc) president Irv Gotti. Nonetheless, Def Jam president and veteran rapper Jay-Z signed Ross to a multi-million-dollar deal. The Miami anthem "Hustlin'" went on to receive gold status from the RIAA in May 2006 and sold over a million ringtone units before the physical release of his debut album, Port of Miami. Released in August 2006, Ross' debut was Slip 'N' Slide's first project under the Def Jam partnership, and it went to number one on the Billboard album chart. His follow-up, Trilla, was released the following year, prefaced with the Cool & Dre-produced title track. Early 2009 saw the release of Deeper Than Rap, an album greeted with numerous positive reviews in the hip-hop press. In early 2010 he released the Teflon Don album featuring the hit single "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)." The star-studded God Forgives, I Don't followed in 2012, with guest shots from Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige. At the start of 2013, he announced details of his sixth studio album. He enlisted the help of Scott Storch and DJ Khaled as executive producers and released the pre-album single "No Games" featuring Future. The album, titled Mastermind, landed in March of 2014 with the simultaneous release of the single "War Ready" featuring Young Jeezy. Just six months later, Ross announced that he would be releasing his seventh studio album, Hood Billionaire, toward the end of 2014. The album arrived in November of that year and was preceded by the singles "Elvis Presley Blvd." and "Keep Doin' That (Rich Bitch)." In 2015 he dropped Black Dollar, a high-profile official mixtape that featured production from J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and Jake One. ~ Cyril Cordor

Tamar Estine Braxton-Herbert' (/ˈteɪˌmɑr/; born March 17, 1977), commonly known by her maiden name Braxton, is a three-time Grammy Award-nominated American R&B singer, talk show host, and reality television personality. She is the youngest sister of R&B singing icon Toni Braxton. Braxton had her first big break in music in 1992 as a founding member of the R&B group The Braxtons, formed with her sisters. After losing two members, The Braxtons released their only album, So Many Ways, as a trio in 1996 along with four singles: "So Many Ways", "Only Love", "The Boss", and "Slow Flow".
In 2000, Braxton began her solo career, after signing with DreamWorks Records and releasing her self-titled debut album. The album was unsuccessful, charting at number 127 on the Billboard 200. It spawned two singles, "Get None" and "If You Don't Wanna Love Me". The label, unsatisfied with the album's performance, dropped Braxton from the label.
In 2011, Braxton reunited with her sisters for the WE tv reality show Braxton Family Values. The first season was the #1 rated reality show on WE tv, and the network ordered a 13-episode second season of the show after the third episode.
Braxton has worked on a number of different solo projects throughout the years, signing with labels such as Casablanca Records and Universal Records, hoping to release an album but suffering delays and cancellations. Braxton returned to the music industry after a thirteen-year break, with her second album, Love and War (2013). The album was released through Epic Records and was preceded by the singles, "Love and War", "The One", and "All The Way Home". The album was considered to be a comeback for Braxton, due to its success.
She is currently one of the hosts of The Real talk show along with Jeannie Mai, Tamera Mowry, Adrienne Bailon, and Loni Love, which premiered on July 15, 2013 on seven Fox-owned stations across the US. Braxton released a single titled "Let Me Know" in October 7, 2014. On May 27, 2015 she released another single titled "If I Don't Have You" and announced her upcoming album's title, Calling All Lovers and release date, October 2, 2015.

DJ E-MONSTA reacted to GreenHitz.com in Yung Lounacy - Shake Yo A$$
Yung Lounacy, born Darrion Robinson, was born on November 21, 1988 on the south side of St. Louis, Missouri. Raised by a single mother in a household where music was always either playing on the radio or every week on Soul Train, helped introduce him to this art form at an early age. Inspired by the Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Nas and new up and coming rapper T.I. Yung Lounacy began rapping at the age of 12 going by the name Lil Statiq. Free styling in and out of school, Lil Statiq quickly became known for his outgoingness and wild personality. It was in high school when he first met his now best friend and business partner, Austin “Propz” Klobe, and ever since that day things had token a turn for greatness were set in motion. He began recording on just a computer in the living room just to see if his peers liked what he had to say and his lyrics. They listened and wanted more from Lil Statiq. So he decided to invest more time and money into this dream he was now going to pursue. Along the way, Lil Statiq was introduced to an up and coming producer, named J. Prophecee, who had heard some of his material and thought his flow was “lunacy” and that was the birth of Yung Lounacy.
Since then, Yung Lounacy has broadened his horizons, working with different genres of music that he wasn't accustomed to, doing songs with a mix of pop and rock while still sticking to his hip hop roots. Now working alongside his two best friends and business partners, Yung Lounacy has become a young entrepreneur. Yung Lounacy has become CEO/Founder of the label, Flight Republic Music LLC, and clothing line, Mental House, and continues to amaze his peers with his determination and out going ness to help others and guide them while building his company within and out. Yung Lounacy has compiled a group of young ambitious individuals out of the St.Louis area with some of the most talented gifts while promoting himself through YouTube videos and doing local shows including a performance of his first single “Swag It Out” at the Super Jam 2009 showcase, he is currently hard at work writing and recording material for his upcoming album and EP. Yung Lounacy is dedicated to get his voice heard and is a force to be reckoned with. All it took was a young man with a dream and push to accomplish everything he has achieved up to this point. But Yung Lounacy is not done there. This is only the beginning. Yung Lounacy in a home near you.
