  1. Title: BEAT THAT Artists: Big Hoot Feat E Dash Tha KillaMan & Peezy Da Great Label: 672 Entertainment Location: Monroe, LA In his native hometown of Monroe, Louisiana, and throughout the south, Big Hoot has created nothing short of a movement. Terrance "Big Hoot" DeGrate started his rap career beat-boxing with his uncle when he was only 6 years old. "My uncle was killed when I was about 12 years old and since then I've been head first in this game." Now the world will get to find out what insiders have been buzzing about since his Grind to Shine debut, "King of the City" dropped in Fall 2005. The streets responded by snatching up his album by the truckload. Hoot has gone on to drop several mixtapes; Jay and The Phatmann - What the Streetz Wants, The Leak, Blue Macic: Good Product for the Low, and added verses on several of his 672 Ent label compilations; We Are The Streetz - The Flood Edition, Big Stoke - Hood Dreams, E-Dash The KillaMan - Live From B.A. etc. But now that he has a following, Hoot is ready to reel them in with his next mixtape, " Class Act: The Mixtape". Hoot's lyrics show his childhood hardships in his life and the dark side of Monroe. “A lot of the cats I came up with I've lost or they're doing time in the federal penitentiary,” he says. “That’s why I do music--for the struggle.” "So many celebrity rap artists set it off for all of the people popping cris [champagne], people riding on 23's and living in gated or isolated cribs, but Hootie says, "My music is for all of my people in the hood who watched me grow up. They have to feel me first, before anybody else feels me." "My music ain't gangsta rap because I ain't no gangsta. I'm a hood nigga that makes hood-hop," he concludes. "It deals with trap niggas, dope boys, ladies in the club, ballers and I even got something for the old heads." 2. New Orleans is known for it’s resiliency through adversity. With a history of floods, poverty, and an extremely high murder rate, the city has maintained an unique taste for food, music, and fashion. Seventeen ward born, West Bank raised, Joshua “Yung Tech” Ard has experienced his share of obstacles and is set to make his mark in New Orleans’ rich musical history. Growing up in Marrero, home of MC Thick, Tech grew up in a small apartment with his mom, dad and two brothers. In his confined bedroom, Tech recorded his first song on a cassette recorder, which had a microphone. At the time, his Uncle who lived on the east coast introduced him to KRS One’s album “Criminal Minded.” At age fifteen, Tech received his first real piece of equipment, MPC 2500, where he made his first beat. During that time, Cash Money was the hottest label in New Orleans and Mannie Fresh was behind all of the beats. Drawn to Mannie’s use of horns and kango drums, Tech reminisced of the New Orleans’ sound. Among the many others who inspired him - Ski Beatz, Biggie, Rocafella, and No Limit, Mannie Fresh was one of Tech’s biggest influences. Although beatmaking was his first drive, freestyling became his passion which later transitioned to his beatmaking process. After Katrina ravaged New Orleans, his family decided to relocate. Both, his mom and dad, decided not to move to Texas with other family members; instead, stay in Louisiana and start over in Monroe. The catastrophe of Katrina left Tech with ill-feelings towards making music again. 2008 brought on more setbacks when Yung Tech was imprisoned for armed robbery which carried a seven-year sentence. Fortunately, Tech only had to do three months and three years probation. Tech’s Big Brother ignited the fire for him to get back to the music. He started his own label and needed tracks for some upcoming projects. Tech made a track and from there, his passion was restarted. Since then, Tech has made tracks for Gospel, Hip-Hop, R&B, and Pop artists’. His sound has been described as Southern Soul and Hip hop mixed with a pinch of trap street music. Three brothers saw something's others couldn't, a wealth of talent brewing in their troubled neighborhood. Day after day, they watched their neighborhood piers get trapped in the criminal system, and finally decided to do something about it. The trio figured that music would be a better way to channel their energy, so they decided to put their minds and their money together, and invested in a more lucrative business. They started with a simple in house studio, piecing together the studio equipment as they received money to afford it. In 2002, they formed the music label Grind to Shine Records, and dropped their first project, Grindaholics featuring Big Hoot, Jake, Lil Dee, Stoke, Mike Lo, Lil Brother, Nate, and CEO Koo Lu. From 2002 to 2005, the label worked to refine its image and continued to organize their efforts to attack the music industry. With the strengthen of Hoot as the lyrist, the label decided to push Hoot as their first major project. The King of the City dropped in 2005 and featured label mates Bad Luck and CEO Koo Lu. During this time, shows, articles and radio spins started coming their way. In November of 2006, FBI raided the GTS studios and took the CEO into custody and seized all of the equipment; a major setback for a label beginning to reap its hard work. Federal agents later took down the second brother, leaving only one to fend for the label. The music came to a stand still due to the convocation of the equipment. Hoot was featured on songs here and there but was unable to follow up with a solo project. Hoot's second project, Hood Living, which was halfway done, when it was leaked to the public. The record company was rejuvenated, now under the name 672 Entertainment, by hosting parties and selling plates, raising money in order to get the studio. Today, 672 Entertainment has reorganized and pushed to be a powerhouse in the music industry.
