Hoot's lyrics show his childhood hardships in his life and the dark side of Monroe. “A lot of the cats I came up with I've lost or they're doing time in the federal penitentiary,” he says. “That’s why I do music--for the struggle.” "So many celebrity rap artists set it off for all of the people popping cris [champagne], people riding on 23's and living in gated or isolated cribs, but Hootie says, "My music is for all of my people in the hood who watched me grow up. They have to feel me first, before anybody else feels me." "My music ain't gangsta rap because I ain't no gangsta. I'm a hood nigga that makes hood-hop," he concludes.
