My name is Rollo Ellis – or at least it is now. I was Born and raised In Detroit. By the time a was five, I was addicted radio to Music. I played live Music in bands from 14 to 27. Then a BIG BREAK – to work in the Music business…So I played “West Coast Promotion Man” for 20 years in the City Of Lights !

I first met my Spirit Guide, Chollis Ellis in 1979 under a chair while attending Michigan State University. I heard him a few time over the following years – brief messages and reminders. I saw Chollis Ellis again in 1998. He told me “ You are ready now… you are Rollo Ellis.” He never specified “what” I was ready for – but I knew “It” was both Spiritual and Creative. (drugs no longer involved).

2000 and 2001 found me recording, experimenting, learning, feeling, -The Music took many shapes Trippy songs, sad, angry , scared, Happy, instrumentals, & experiments, as I layered the sounds I heard in my head. These recordings became “ You, Me, The Goat And Donuts” - done mostly for me . An unexpected & much needed catharsis. New Territory…. I and was thrilled to be able call on old friend Joe Gastwirt to master my first album of confessions and confusions.

I moved from Los Angeles to Melbourne when the album was done in 2002. A quiet release in the US and Australia.

In 2005 – Lots more to say. No visits but lots of inspiration ( Yin & Yang) and more purging, primal, mostly electric Sounds. Again Something inside had changed. I was playing, writing & recording in new ways - New sounds…feedback, bells, better machines and TIME. Some of the songs sounded like what I was hearing in my head -11 became Another One Of Those Odd Red Beetles We Keep Finding”

I played solo acoustic gigs 2007 – 2011: Ruby’s Lounge, Scarab Bar, PAVE Festival, and open mics and jams. It’s a challenging process….playing alone ‘naked’ on a stage. I had to go to a certain place to pull those gigs off – but found a new level of competence and confidence- that comfortable place. I developed an acoustic set of about 25 songs some of which appear on the New Album.

In 2012 I met Luke Tylim through our work at 3MDR.– we discussed making an album with Luke as Producer (and more) and me as a naked singer songwriter. We stared in April 2013 recording 22 songs live and then adding real instruments our rules: keep it loose, let things happen and no sampling or Synths.

After six emotional, fun, challenging, rewarding, and educational months – Luke and I emerged with : Songs From Under The Stares At The Solitary Elephant Mourning The Blindness Of Humanity. A new approach to my Music “OTHER PEOPLE !!” Luke Tylim ( 0n lots of things ), Zia Ziam ( Drums ), Lare Burns ( Cello ) and Steve Davies ( Didgeridoo ) –This album is more organic, more musical and most excitedly involves four very talented people…showing me and pushing me. Thank You ALL!
