I agree with the majority of what everyone has said. 1) Love for the music-to love your music also involves knowing your songs 2) Blend music-not quick crossfades from a 70 to 100bpm song or letting it ride out 3) Moving the crowd-its one thing to be able to beatmatch but choosing the right songs for that particular crowd on that particular night is a challenge. what works for one crowd might not work for another crowd 4) being able to work some form of platters-in the digital age static & moveable platters (either turntables or cdjs) are all you see in the clubs 5) Experience-experience is what builds you as a dj. Experience helps you make the decisions on what to play & when to play. It also helps you develop the concept of playing on the fly instead of a specific memorized playlist so you can read the crowd. I will say that I don't believe scratching is a pre-requisite for being a dj. I think scratching is another artform on top of djing. It has its own name: turnablism. Although I produce also, I don't believe its a pre-req to be a dj. You can be a producer without being a dj & a dj without being a producer. Sometimes some of the best are the ones that specialized. Thats my 2 cents though.

I've been using Torq for a minute & I love it. Once I figured out the little quirks in vista like turning off the wireless & bluetooth its been just as stable as it has been in windows xp. I can't wait for version 1.5 to come out! I used serato for a good few months & it was solid, but for the price, features, & stability, you cant go wrong with torq!
