What is a real DJ.....I really don't have a concrete answer.
Ever since I was younger for the most part I've been infatuated with music. My uncle was a DJ and every time I went over his house I would mess around with his full turntable set and he would teach me some of the basic elements of deejaying.
Years later....I'm now 18. I have a two direct drive Gemini turntables, Denon Mixer, a loptop, and an external hard with a music library with over 11,000 songs. I've spent countless hours listening to music, cueing up songs, and practicing on a daily basis. I can scratch and mix songs efficiently. I've been doing college parties...but thats pretty much it. It's funny though, because I dont really tell people that I'm a DJ yet.
On the flip side of this......My friend calls himself a "DJ" and he's been doing alot of high school parties. He just uses his laptop.....Thats it. He pretty much presses buttons all night. Each gig he gets at the least $150 a gig. It confuses me.....I'm thinking to myself he gets paid for pretty much pressing buttons all not. Anyone can do that. A monkey can press buttons all night if you train it to...
Me personally I believe that Originality is the key to Innovation.
But I dont know whether to call myself a DJ yet.
What do you all think...
