I'm here J...lol. But I dont be using lights and shit. Just my turntables mixer, and laptop. Damn J....I thought I was alone thinking the samething. It's obvious to say we are on the same page. I'm hungry as fuck too, but I honestly dont think I'm ready for a huge event. I got mad music, but I think I need to get even more...I know for a fact though that I'm better than most DJ's in most clubs...That's real talk. No bullshit.

This is a well put point. For the longest while I've been convinced that the sacred art of deejaying has been lost and distorted. I grew up believing not anyone person can become a DJ, but it seems in this day and age you can do anything. Deejaying is not only about playing music, but the art of turntablism. I actually peformed my first scratch when I was 16. Like I said previously, I can do most of the things you previously stated. But where I'm currently located (Atlanta, Georgia) turntabilism isn't given much thought. People call themselves DJs when they bring their laptop to a gig and press buttons all night. It bothers me. What really bothers me is that most people think it's ok. Now I'm not hating on people who do that. By all means get your money, but I know Deejaying is more than playing music. One of my personal goals is to bring back this artform in a city where turntabilism isn't really given much thought..

What is a real DJ.....I really don't have a concrete answer. Ever since I was younger for the most part I've been infatuated with music. My uncle was a DJ and every time I went over his house I would mess around with his full turntable set and he would teach me some of the basic elements of deejaying. Years later....I'm now 18. I have a two direct drive Gemini turntables, Denon Mixer, a loptop, and an external hard with a music library with over 11,000 songs. I've spent countless hours listening to music, cueing up songs, and practicing on a daily basis. I can scratch and mix songs efficiently. I've been doing college parties...but thats pretty much it. It's funny though, because I dont really tell people that I'm a DJ yet. On the flip side of this......My friend calls himself a "DJ" and he's been doing alot of high school parties. He just uses his laptop.....Thats it. He pretty much presses buttons all night. Each gig he gets at the least $150 a gig. It confuses me.....I'm thinking to myself he gets paid for pretty much pressing buttons all not. Anyone can do that. A monkey can press buttons all night if you train it to... Me personally I believe that Originality is the key to Innovation. But I dont know whether to call myself a DJ yet. What do you all think...
