Hip-Hop has always emulated the Jamaican culture, especially the Dancehall culture. Rappers have been collaborating with Jamaican DJs (which is what we call our hardcore artists) and what becomes of that are instant hits, in the mainstream and underground. Now there's a fusion and the product is dubbed Caribbean Hip-Hop. Instead of Dancehall tracks with deejaying that foreigners can't understand the Patois language, we now have DJs rapping over classic Reggae beats, Dancehall beats and a few Hip-Hop beats in English and Ibonics with a touch of the Caribbean accent as well as a few local colloquial expressions. You'll love it. First off, this is a track by Real Rude Bwoy Tafari featuring Big Youth on a track called "Not An Easy Road" and there's more where this came from. Tafari is a Jamaican artist who is based in Miami, Florida but was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. He is the son of International Reggae icon, Big Youth who is featured on this track. Tafari's lyrics are hardcore but the vintage Reggae beat mellows it down with the smooth voice of Big Youth topping it off. I'll be posting up other Caribbean Hip-Hop tracks soon that includes more from Tafari, as well as new stuff from Dylan DilinJah and some other upcoming superstars.
