newnextleveldjs
“Dollar Bill” is a collaboration between 2 artists from Upstate New York. P.Gutter from Albany, NY and Rick Hyde from Buffalo, NY. Rick Hyde is a rapper and producer affiliated with the now world famous rap group Griselda out Buffalo. Rick Hyde is a solo artist and also 1/3 of the rap group Black Soprano Family that also has Benny The Butcher as 1 of its members. The concept of “Dollar Bill” was meant to bring back memories of the Wu-Tang classic hit record “C.R.E.A.M” which featured Wu-Tang members Raekwon, Inspectah Deck and Method Man. Method Man made appearance on the “C.R.E.A.M.” record yelling out the words “Dollar, Dollar Bill Ya’ll!!!” It was that iconic line that served as inspiration for the collaboration between P.Gutter and Rick Hyde. The production on “Dollar Bill” gives you that “Golden Era” soulful feel, setting the stage beautifully for the 2 lyricists to tell their stories in full detail. P.Gutter and Rick Hyde are both known for their clever wordplay and this track is no different. Well thought out punchlines and metaphors take you on a roller coaster ride as the 2 MC’s tell their stories of street life in Upstate New York. P.Gutter even pays homage to the original Wu-Tang classic by rocking a Ralph Lauren Snow Beach jacket in the “Dollar Bill” music video that looks almost identical to the same jacket worn by Raekwon in the music video for “C.R.E.A.M.” But make no mistake “Dollar Bill” is not a remake of an old classic. Its merely a new generation of rappers showing respect to the pioneers who came before them and carrying on the tradition of making timeless music.
