Already, June B and DJ Leem – the stage names for Kenneth Earl Hemingway Jr. and Khaleem Solomon – have performed with established stars of the business, opening for Nappy Roots at the Riot Room in Kansas City in May and for Wiz Khalifa in Lawrence.

With football in the rear-view mirror, Hemingway found a new teammate: his Army brat cousin who was born in Germany, was raised in New York and visited South Carolina each summer.

The pair aren't slacking on their new venture, continuously working on new songs and promoting the material on social media.

"We try to put as much of ourselves into our music as possible," Solomon said. "We don't ever stop grinding."

But while they take the process seriously, just as important to them is having fun.

"I want someone to listen to our music and know we're a good time," Solomon said. "We don't try to promote violence or nothing like that."
