Derrick did not have those things easily handed to him. He was driven and determined to accompolish his goals, and he did. As a child, Derrick loved music. Growing up in such a spiritual family, he sung in the church choir every Sunday. Not to mention, Monday through Friday he sung during recess while @ school. When Derrick attended junior high school school, he was able to sing in the school choir. It was a dream come true. Although Derrick was so passionate about music, he loved sports too. He wanted to play football, but his mother would not allow it due to his asthma. That lead him to pursue basketball. During his high school career,Derrick decided to do away with basketball but maintained his position in the school choir. At this age, his mother allowed him to listen to music of his choice that wasn't too provocative. His love for music grew even stronger @ that point. While music was important to Derrick, obtaining a job his senior year of high shcool and graduating was a priority. Derrick landed his first job as a bagger @ a local grocery store. After working throughout the summer, Derrick started college and only completed a year before officially dropping out. Derrick tried something different after dropping out of college. He started living the "street life" which included dealing drugs. Those profits opened the door to numerous business opportunities. During his early adulthood, Derrick owned barbershops, beautyshops and clothing stores. Derrick later married, and his wife was expecting their first child. He wasn't able to hold on to those businesses forever and neither did he witness the birth of his son. Derrick went to prison in relation to drugs, and his son was born approximately 1 week later. This was one of the most humiliating times of Derrick's life. Serving 5 years in Federal prison, Derrick had plenty of time to think and he used his time wisely. He developed friendships with some of the guys and learned from them while sharing his stories. One man told him that the only thing equivalent to drug money is club money. He then gave Derrick the run down on tips to being a successful club owner. Derrick also received his CDL license while serving his sentence. He planned to be ready to hit the road on an 18 wheeler after completing his time at the half way house. Now that he had served his time @ the half way house, Derrick was a free man. He would never use those CDL license. Derrick continued with the street life. Derrick started back dealing drugs but also took into consideration what the man told in prison about drug money and club money. Although the man told Derrick that it was equivalent, he wanted it all. He did both. Derrick opened a bar called One Five and also a club named 750. He later opened a liquor store. He had all the money he wanted. He then found music again. Derrick started rapping and hooked up with a partner rapped also. Derrick was putting money behind his partner because he saw potential. However, his partner was not as serious as he was. Once the public noticed it, they would all say, "Well why don't you just rap?" He then began writing and rapping by himself. Everything was going well until one day his partner set him up. Derrick lost all business. He was headed back to prison. During his second prison term, Derrick spent more of his time finding himself, developing a relationship with God and reading his bible. He had his mind made up and that that was his last time in the joint. Derrick knew he was a convicted felon and he had no chances @ getting a real job when he returned home. With that being said, Derrick took up barbering. He would cut the inmates hair in prison as a hustle. He also received his restaruant management licence during his second stay. After 3 1/2 years, Derrick was again close to being a free man. Again, he had to complete time @ the half way house. Once he was successful with their program, he was headed home. During conversations with homeboys while in prison, he already had a job lined up. His friend owned a barber shop and told him that he would have a chair when he got home. Derrick did not waste any time. He started working within days of arriving home. He hustled and promoted the babershop so well that his clientele was increasing on a daily basis. After settling in with the new gig, he pursued the club/bar activities again. Derrick established a promotion company called Kut Da Check, and they promoted some of the biggest parties in the city. It wasn't long before Derrick was owing the bar where the parties were being hosted. He is the current ower @ this time. Derrick continued with his rap career. While his barbering clientele was through the roof and the club money was unreal, he gave himself the rap name, $WALKIN MONEY$. Derrick also recorded his hit single named, his name, $WALKIN MONEY$. This song is hot and popular Derrick's city and surrounding cities.
