KEMIST DA KIDD, (born October 18,1986), is an American rapper, songwriter and entrepreneur from Dallas, Texas. Born in Atlanta, GA, where he spent the first six years of his life, until his parents separated and he was up rooted to Freeport, NY. At the age of 15, the family again relocated, this time to Dallas, Texas.
Each state had an influential impact to his style of rapping. Music has always been a passion for Kemist, but his drive to make it his career came from his older cousin, who taught him how to freestyle, and what started, as a hobby quickly became his passion. By the age of 12, he had honed his skills to next level status and began actively working towards getting signed. Kemist performed everywhere from the school playground to his neighborhood street corner. Kemist began garnering the attention of not only his peers, but industry executives as well. At the age of 14, a family friend arranged a meeting between Kemist, his mother and an A&R for Bad Boy Records. He thought his prayers had been answered. After sitting in the meeting for hours, rapping his heart out about any topic the A&R threw out, it was clear that Kemist had raw talent. A second meeting was quickly scheduled and again, he left the room in awe. After two successful meetings Kemist felt sure that he was on his way to becoming a national artist. With his dreams on the horizon, he was completely devastated when his mother announced that they would be moving to Texas in a matter of weeks. He begged his mother not to make him go, but leaving him behind was simply not an option, so his mother and four siblings moved to Texas. Though it wasn’t his decision to move, he refused to let this situation deter him from his goal.
It wasn’t long before he gained a name for himself in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as one of the most lyrical rappers around. At the age of 15, he competed in several freestyle battles hosted by HeadKrack and won them all. He was always the youngest person in the competitions, often performing in bars and local nightclubs well before he was of legal age, yet he was always undeniably the most talented. The following year he was featured on a track called “Step In My Cypher” by Native Sounds that was in rotation on K104, a Dallas based radio show. Performances around the city, plus the single, helped catapult him to local acclaim.
Kemist found himself facing a life-altering situation at the age of 18. He was falsely accused of a crime and subsequently spent five years in TDJC, the state penitentiary system. He used the time he was incarcerated to further his craft, writing countless verses and poems. That experience forever changed his outlook on life and he knew that when he made his return to society, nothing could stop him from achieving greatness. Kemist da Kidd is still writing his story. Kemist is currently working on his next project scheduled to release in March titled “Like I Bought It Vol.3, The Lost Tapes”, releasing his first single “All Day” January 6th on iTunes and everywhere your favorite music is sold. Kemist will also be an official preforming artists on the 2015 SXSW stage March 21. Kemist da Kidd is charging ahead with more knowledge and wisdom and a deeper understanding of the music Industry, and plans to grow his label, “Prolifik Vibez” to a new level of Southern hip hop, leaving a legacy that can’t be forgotten.
