The progenitor of what he terms ratchet music (what others might call strip club anthems), DJ Mustard (Dijon McFarlane) is a rap and R&B DJ and producer from South Central Los Angeles, California whose 2010s rise is attributed to a simple, hypnotic sound. He started with YG, as heard on the 2010 mixtape The Real 4Fingaz, but his first big hit came the following year with Tyga's "Rack City," which reached number seven on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and went double platinum. His 2012 hits came with 2 Chainz's "I'm Different" -- another double-platinum smash -- and Young Jeezy's "R.I.P." In 2013, he was behind a quartet of singles that hit the Top Ten of Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart: YG's "My N*gga," Ty Dolla Sign's "Paranoid," Kid Ink's "Show Me," and Trey Songz's "Na Na." The year also saw the release of a DJ Mustard mixtape, Ketchup, on which he was joined by many of the above-mentioned rappers, as well as Dom Kennedy, Casey Veggies, and Cashout. Mustard's 2014 involved ten tracks produced for YG's My Krazy Life, collaborations with Tinashe, Ty Dolla Sign, and TeeFlii, and the development of his proper debut album. ~ Andy Kellman

    DJ E-MONSTA reacted to GreenHitz.com in Capital P - Doin Numbers @_capital_p
Capital P hails from Ohio, his self proclaimed "beloved", and is what you would call the people's champ. His music speaks directly to the listener in a way that grabs you due to its relatability. His witty punchlines and vivid depiction of life sets him apart from the run of the mill artist. He creates his music on the spot and never writes anything down. He says, "It's about feeling the music and giving the people that feeling." He's worked with super producer Tim Kelley and has been in the studio with Dj Hi-Tek, Bizzy Bone, and a host of other Ohio artists. Refusing to follow industry standards, Capital P has turned down multiple record deals to retain his creative control and operate as his own boss.
Teaming up with producer Jamezz Bonn, the two have created a very intoxicating sound that is sure to wow you on your first listen. He states, "It's more of a reaction to what Bonn is doing with the production than a premeditated thing. We make 95 percent of our music on the fly in the moment." After listening their latest project "Seven", I would have to agree that the two have something special and organic about their sound. It's not based on gimmicks or fads. It's real music that will stand the test of time. I look forward to hearing anything that has their names tied to it in the future.

DJ E-MONSTA reacted to GreenHitz.com in Trinidad James Ft. Mystikal & Lil Dicky - Just A Lil Thick (Produced by DJ Mustard) @Trinidadjamesgg
Coming up somewhere between Wiz Khalifa (loose flow, hedonistic lyrics) and Lil B (free spirit, love of alternative-flavored beats), Atlanta's Trinidad James went from viral to Def Jam signee, and all in his rookie season. Born in Trinidad but raised in Atlanta, Nicholas Williams was a 24-year-old manager of a downtown streetwear boutique when he decided to try his hand at rapping and become Trinidad James. That was late 2011, and in October of 2012, Trinidad dropped his debut mixtape, Don't Be S.A.F.E., which featured the viral hit "All Gold Everything." In December of that year, as the "All Gold Everything" video passed the three-million views mark, Def Jam announced their signing of the rapper and released the "All Gold Everything" remix with verses from T.I., Young Jeezy, and 2 Chainz added to the track. The label gave the Don't Be S.A.F.E. mixtape an official release in early 2013. ~ David Jeffries

DJ E-MONSTA reacted to GreenHitz.com in Brown Dollaz Ft. Kace - Watch How I Do It @MUZIQLINE @brown_dollaz
Brown Dollaz is a rap artist based in Miami, Florida.
His style echoes the compact punch of the southern flow, with lots of trap influences, heavy beats, lush melodies and direct lyricism, not unlike artists the likes of Rick Ros, Nas or Lil B, just to mention but a few.
On the other hand, Brown Dollaz is really not your average southern rapper: his style blurs the lines between the warmth and punch of the old school while remaining solidly anchored to modern clarity and punchy song productions. His music is the epitome of quality hip-hop, echoing the warmth and organic textures of old school releases, while bringing a modern edge to the sound and a particular attention to lyrical wit.
Brown Dollaz immediately strikes for their ability to create simple music with very complex and direct shades, highlighting the artist’s willingness to create catchy songs while maintaining a lively connection with his authentic roots.

Milwaukee-born, Atlanta-raised rapper K Camp started performing in high school, as part of a group called HBC. The group split, in part due to lack of ambition, but K Camp took his talent a little more seriously -- albeit without any plan of making a career out of it. He continued to perform and record on his own and, in 2009, released the party anthem "All Night," which gained some popularity in Atlanta. After enduring some business mishaps, including an alleged lack of recognition for his role in the making of Myko Montana's "Do It," K Camp continued to build his reputation through underground releases such as Fan4life, Show Money, and In Due Time. The last of the three featured "Money Baby," one of the best showcases for his laconic, laid-back flow to that point. It was also his first single to chart -- a number 19 hit on Billboard's Hot Rap Tracks. 2 Chainz collaboration "Cut Her Off," the lead single from the Interscope-released EP In Due Time, reached number six and went platinum. Only Way Is Up, K Camp's debut album, followed in 2015 with appearances from T.I., Bun B, and Jeremih, among others. ~ Andy Kellman

DJ E-MONSTA reacted to GreenHitz.com in Usher Ft. Young Thug - No Limit @Usher @youngthug
One of the most successful pop-R&B artists of the late 20th century and the early 21st century, Usher debuted during the mid-'90s as a fresh-faced teenager. As part of the thriving LaFace label roster, he made an instant impact in R&B's post-new jack swing era. He successfully rode mainstream songwriting and production trends across three decades and peaked artistically and commercially during the mid-2000s, when his landmark fourth album, Confessions, outshone all of its competitors. It generated four straight number one pop hits and joined the ranks of Thriller, Whitney Houston, and CrazySexyCool by achieving diamond platinum status -- over ten million copies sold in the U.S. More than anyone else, as a singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, and all-around entertainer, Usher was the successor to Michael Jackson. Born Usher Terry Raymond IV in Dallas, Texas, Usher spent much of his childhood in Chattanooga, Tennessee and eventually moved to Atlanta, Georgia for the sake of his budding music career. After a LaFace A&R representative spotted him on Star Search, his career took off. The 14-year-old auditioned for LaFace co-founder L.A. Reid, who signed the gospel choir boy to a recording contract. In 1994, Usher released his debut album of the same name, which featured co-executive producer Sean "Puffy" Combs. The first single, "Think of You," gained Usher wide recognition and reached gold status. From that initial exposure, Usher was approached to do other projects. In 1995, he recorded a national holiday jingle for Coca-Cola. He also joined several top male R&B vocalists to form Black Men United for the single "You Will Know," featured on the Jason's Lyric soundtrack. He also teamed with teen singing sensation Monica for a remake of Latimore's "Let's Straighten It Out." After graduating from high school, Usher released his sophomore album, My Way, in 1997. In an attempt to display his maturity and songwriting abilities, he co-wrote six of the nine songs and enlisted the help of producers Jermaine Dupri, Babyface, and, again, Combs. The album's first single, "You Make Me Wanna," reestablished Usher as one of R&B's hottest artists, and also made him a crossover sensation. It topped Billboard's R&B chart for 11 weeks, hit number two on the Hot 100, and eventually went double platinum. Both of the follow-up singles, "Nice & Slow" and "My Way," also went platinum; the former stayed at number one on the R&B chart for eight weeks and became his first number one pop single. In the meantime, Usher launched an acting career, appearing in the 1998 horror spoof The Faculty and the 1999 urban high-school drama Light It Up. To tide fans over until his next studio release, Usher issued a concert recording titled simply Live in 1999. He returned on the Arista label with his third proper album, 8701, in 2001, and progressed from a teen pop star to a sultry R&B singer. Three years later, Arista released the single "Yeah!" Produced by Lil Jon and guesting Ludacris, the addictive, lightly crunk cut fast became a club favorite, and then it went global -- a number one pop hit in the U.S., the U.K., Germany, and several other territories. Confessions, the parent album, was Usher's most mature and diverse work. It won a Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album, while "Yeah!" took home the award for Best Rapped/Sung Collaboration. He starred in 2005's In the Mix and returned in 2008 with Here I Stand, an album that topped the Billboard 200 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts but inevitably failed to do as well as what preceded it. Raymond v Raymond, inspired in part by the end of Usher's marriage, was released in 2010 as three of its songs were climbing the charts. Its buzz single, "Papers," had already topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. An EP titled Versus followed later in the year. Led by another Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart-topper, "Climax" (co-produced by Diplo), Looking 4 Myself was issued in 2012, driven by the Top Ten single "Scream," and it became Usher's fourth number one album. A year later, he began a stint as a coach for the NBC talent show The Voice. Usher released singles throughout 2014, including "Good Kisser," "She Came to Give It to You," and "I Don't Mind," the last of which -- featuring Juicy J -- peaked just outside the Top Ten of the Hot 100. ~ Lynda Lane & Andy Kellman

Mixing bud smoker's anthems with socially conscious numbers, rapper ScHoolboy Q spent three years in the mixtape underground before launching his career properly in 2011. The first mixtape, the autobiographical Schoolboy Turned Hustla, landed in 2008 and quickly caught the attention of Kendrick Lamar and Top Dawg Entertainment. Lamar would form the Black Hippy collective with ScHoolboy along with Jay Rock and Ab-Soul, while Top Dawg would sign the artist to their label. His Gangster & Soul mixtape landed in 2009, and Top Dawg released his official debut, Setbacks, in 2011. In 2012, Top Dawg announced they had signed a joint venture deal with Interscope and Aftermath, which saw fellow Black Hippy member Kendrick Lamar's debut album get a full release. Later that year, ScHoolboy Q announced he was recording his third album and would be the second member of Black Hippy to benefit from the deal. After a series of mysterious tweets in 2013, Q announced that the release would be called Oxymoron, but nearly a year passed before the dark and abstract album -- which featured a whole host of guest producers and vocalists -- was released in February 2014. Nevertheless, it debuted at number one on the pop charts and pushed the single "Studio" into the Top 40. ~ David Jeffries & Rich Wilson

California-born, Tupelo-raised, Atlanta-based rap duo Rae Sremmurd debuted on Mike WiLL Made It's late-2013 mixtape Mike Will Been Trill with "We," a scraping, lashing party track. While their name could have been read as a backward-spelled alias for Mike WiLL's songwriting and production syndicate EarDrummers, Rae Sremmurd turned out to be two young and exuberant rappers, Swae Lee (Khalif Brown) and Slim Jimmy (Aaquil Brown). They were former members of Dem Outta St8 Boyz, a trio that had competed on the Wild Out Wednesday segment of BET's 106 & Park program. In February 2014, "We" was issued as Rae Sremmurd's first official single through Mike WiLL's Made-It Mafia label. Throughout the rest of 2014, following the signing of a contract with Interscope, the rowdy "No Flex Zone" and relatively kicked-back "No Type" and "Throw Sum Mo" (featuring Nicki Minaj and Young Thug) were released as preludes to the early-2015 album SremmLife. All three singles reached the Top Ten of Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart. The first two received platinum certifications. In 2016, they returned with the single "By Chance" along with SremmLife 2, their sophomore LP. ~ Andy Kellman

Mixing the radio-worthy weirdness of rappers like Waka Flocka Flame with the hooky underground anthem sound of artists like Chief Keef, Atlanta's Young Thug broke through in 2013 with a series of successful mixtapes and singles. Born Jeffrey Williams, Thug released three volumes of his mixtape series I Came from Nothing before joining Gucci Mane's 1017 Brick Squad crew in late 2012. His mixtape 1017 Thug followed in early 2013, featuring the quirky street single "Picacho." Later in the year, his "Stoner" single would appear, but it didn't catch fire until 2014, when an authorized remix featuring Wale opened the floodgates for a series of unauthorized remixes from artists like Jim Jones, Iamsu!, and Trick Trick. That same year, Thug announced he had signed with rapper Future's Freebandz imprint. His street album, 2015's Barter 6, climbed up to number 22 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, while the 2016 mixtape I'm Up debuted at the very same position. Mere months after dropping I'm Up, Thug released Slime Season 3, the final installment of his mixtape trilogy. ~ David Jeffries
