Biography
Brandon "Dj Cuttz" Duckett was born in Fredrick Maryland. Brandon and his parents later moved to Glen Burnie Maryland and he began his school and Church life like any other kid. Interested in music since he was age 3 listening to Michael Jackson and other artist. At the age of 11 Brandon began to purchase all the music he possibly could hosting small parties for his friends at house parties. Growing up in the church kept him always busy as he learned how to play the piano and drums. Encouraged by his parents (Gwendolyn & Frankie Duckett) to always do better by going to church every Sunday and getting good grades in school earned him weekly allowances so he could purchase new music. Brandon began making beats for young artist at the age 13. Producing and rapping was a hard deal for him as other things got in the way such as school grades falling, getting into trouble, and disrespecting people. Things had to change so he balanced things out with school and music. In 2001 things would change when Brandon and his family moved to Charlotte North Carolina. Times went by slow while Brandon had to adjust to a "new world" by making new friends and leaving all his old friends behind that he grew up with his whole life. While attending Olympic High School in Charlotte, NC Brandon landed his first job at 15 working at Paramount Carowinds. While working at Carowinds Brandon saved all his money to invest in a laptop computer so he could make beats and network on Social networks via internet. At the age of 16 his ambition was to become a successful DJ and then later become a music producer. While working he focused on saving money to one day get a pair of turntables but that day didn't come anytime soon. Graduating from Olympic High school in 2004 (17) was a big accomplishment for his family as he thought he didn't "do enough" and wanted to take school a step further. After getting accepted to Winston-Salem State University Brandon began working weekly at Fire House Subs. During the summer break saving money for the dj equipment needed necessary finally happened. Sophomore year into college was the birth of "Dj Cuttz". The first of his many events was a dorm party which was promoted through Facebook. Many of his friends and colleagues attended the event that sparked the interest of this "DJ". Promoters that attended the party were shocked because a dorm party had a DJ. Exchange of many numbers and the gain of Facebook friends began the booking of "Dj Cuttz". Many people thought it would be impossible but DJs such as Dj Swade, Dj Cease Fire, Dj Reflection and Dj MC made the DJ world so much easier for him. "Study the Crowd" was the first proposition for Cuttz as his mentor Dj Swade once said. Dj cuttz would go from party to party just to listen to the music and study the Dj's and crowd reaction. Dj Swade landed Cuttz an opening gig for him every Saturday at many clubs around Winston Salem. Dj Cuttz first (Solo) club event was a Winston Salem State homecoming event where many people didn't know him as DJ but danced as if he had been DJ'ing for years. The first party set a trend for future parties as DJ Cuttz began working cookouts, club parties and other small events. DJ Cuttz met a New York promoter named Ricky Mogul which he set up a meeting through Winston Salem State to contract me for all the campus events naming him the campus DJ. Becoming a local star turned into networking with big time promoters throughout North Carolina. Meeting with popular hosts around the city such as BDaht, Walled Coyote, Tap Money and SporteOdie opened up doors as he began working all the clubs in Winston Salem, Greensboro and Raleigh/Durham. January 2006 another promoter from New York offered him a 4 day DJ spot at clubs in Miami for college spring breaks. Taking the offer would forever change what people thought of DJ Cuttz. Respect from the party promoters and the people in Miami was a huge milestone for him. The last day of Miami while in the airport he ran into a big time promoter from Kentucky that attended one of the events in Miami which they exchanged numbers and talked business later that week. The promoter from Kentucky offered DJ Cuttz a 3 day DJ Spot (Kentucky Derby Weekend) at one of the premier night clubs in that state. The event in Kentucky was hosted by Jermaine Dupri (So So Def) and Ludacris (DTP). Other artist that attended, Usher, Michael Jordan, Buffy the Body, Eryka Badu, Dave Chapelle, Nelly and many others. After all the events and success of that year people started to notice that DJ Cuttz was no rookie anymore. Doing business for himself thalso had a downfall which people would try to get over on him about money or double booking his own events. Learning the business was his main focus without having a manager. In 2008 DJ Cuttz was named the Official DJ for the Winston Salem State Basketball team. Cuttz fan base was stronger than ever but he never forgot to focus on his goals. Dj Cuttz came up with ideas to join the mixtape game as he landed a big spot with an artist named Rasheeda from Atlanta Georgia. The mixtape was added to many websites and Cuttz gained popularity through the mixtape as he intended it would. Later in 2008 Dj Cuttz met a popular artist named Soulja Boy and his Manager Miami Mike when he did a show for them and exchanged numbers so they could later do business. Business with Soulja Boy didn't pick up as fast due to lack of budget with a potential road DJ and Cuttz was still in school so he turned down the road request. The start of 2010 was yet another highlight of DJ Cuttz career. Cuttz was offered a 2 Day McDonalds DJ Battle spot for the CIAA Basketball Championship Weekend. Dj Cuttz won the first battle which his popularity rate went up instantly. The 2nd battle didn't go so well as he came in 2nd place in front of thousands of people. People still showed him love as usual. Dj Cuttz was offered to DJ a concert for the "All College Weekend" for Memorial Day Weekend which had artist from DTP, Sammie and Soulja boy. One of the District Managers at DTLR Retail noticed his success, talked business with him and named him the Official DJ for all the East coast stores. Dj Cuttz is just now making his presence of becoming of what a successful DJ is destined to be..... This is his story
