Stylistically left-of-center rapper Adam Daniel, who goes by his middle name, Aminé, rapped in high school but didn't take it seriously until after he graduated. It took a while for the Portland, Oregon native to find his voice, as heard on Odyssey to Me, a derivative 2014 release the rapper quickly put behind him. Boasting productions from the likes of Kaytranada, Tek.Lun, and fellow Pacific Northwesterner Pasqué, as well as some askew trap and tribal beat-making of his own, the radically improved Calling Brio followed a year later. Signed to Republic, Aminé made his major-label debut in 2016 with "Caroline," a sparse, sweeping Pasqué collaboration that crossed into the Top 15 of the Billboard Hot 100 that September. He followed with "REDMERCEDES," a popping blend of Vince Staples and Missy Elliot. Additional singles issued in 2017 included "Heebiejeebies," "Turf," and "Blinds," leading to the full-length Good for You, issued that July with appearances from Ty Dolla $ign, Nelly, Offset, and Charlie Wilson. ~ Andy Kellman
