An Atlanta-based MC and producer who broke thanks to a track based on the rideshare economy, MadeinTYO (Malcolm Jamaal Davis) got his name from his teen years, which he spent growing up in Tokyo, Japan. He lived there with his older brother, rapper Rolls Royce Rizzy, and referenced his local train depot with his 2015 instrumental EP Yokosuka Station. That same year, he dropped the single "I Want" via Private Club. He broke nationally the following year when "Uber Everywhere," the standout track from his brief debut mixtape You Are Forgiven, was picked up for major distribution via Warner and subsequently peaked that July at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100. Thank You, Mr. Tokyo, another short mixtape, was out at the end of the year. ~ David Jeffries
