Roderick “Deonte’” Nicholas was born in Dallas, TX on April 29, 1985; he reigns under the sign of Taurus. When he was 15 years old he recorded his first song and earned the name “Smooth Dragon”, later he joined the group “Young Dragons. As years past, he joined Phar East, Grind Records, and later Stoney Crook, an independent recording company, where he gained the name “Hot Rod.” In junior high and high school, he played football as a linebacker for Lakeview Patriots and the Garland Owls. He was granted a full scholarship, to several promising universities, due to his outstanding performance as a linebacker. When Deonte’s parents divorced, he and his mom moved to Oak Cliff where he spent a lot of time with his grandmother, Wanda Brown. Sadly, in 2001, she passed away, but leaving Deonte’ with an epiphany, from there his passion for music pushed him to pursue his musical career. In 2005, Keys and his brother J pimp-n, of Pimp-n-Keys Entertainment were mixing and mastering, Mr. Pookie’s album “Return of Tha Rippla, for Universal Records when Deonte’ met them, and joined the team. Because of his R&B lyrical thug style and sultry voice, they encouraged him to produce his own R&B album, which was so successful, that they offered him part owner of the company. From there, he decided to use his real name “Deonte’” to stay loyal to his friends and true to the game. Ray Charles, Sam Cook, Marvin Gaye, R. Kelly, Baby Face, Smokey Robinson, the Ghetto Boys, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Biggie, Eminem and others inspired him while growing up and listening to various forms and styles of music. Deonte’ has performed on stage with Paul Wall, Lil Flip, TI, Slim Thug, Ying Yang Twins and Jagged Edge to name a few. As an artist and songwriter, Deonte is one to look out for, he is doing big things. His sultry voice blends in with the likes of Usher, Trey Songz, Neo and other artist in that genre of music.

hate to go against the grain but I thought the vocals needed work along with the last few bars of the instrumental on the end . . .Pookie's rap was O K though.. definitely NOT a club banger.. just one mans opinion..

Most of the tracks are usually far far from being club bangers a lot of these artists do not support the mixed cds they are on - I will for the most part stick with major artists from now on. most of these new artists are

not really reping just following tired and using phrasing that the djs are just tired of.
