More details are emerging in the murder of Rae Sremmurd’s stepfather.

The rappers’ half-brother, Michael Sullivan, was arrested after being accused of murdering his father Floyd Sullivan, who died after being shot at his home on Monday night.

Now TMZ reports that Floyd’s ex-wife, Bernadette Walker, says her 19-year-old son suffers from Schizoaffective disorder, which causes schizophrenia. Symptons include hallucinations, delusions, and mood disorders, such as mania and depression. She says his mental illness requires medication and claims he hasn’t been medicated as of late.

Michael was living with Bernadette in Atlanta until November, when she says he stopped taking his meds, causing his outbursts of anger to become more frequent. He eventually moved in with his father, Floyd, in Mississippi.

While she doesn’t know what caused Michael to allegedly shoot his father, she suspects an argument ensued and that Michael might have been off his meds. Michael was held for psychiatric evaluation before being arrested a day later for murder.

Bernadette, who’s been divorced from Floyd since 2008, also criticized the mental health system. She says she couldn’t require Michael to take his medication after he turned 18, which she says was needed to keep him calm.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi’s mother thanked her friends and followers for their support. “Thank you ?? to everyone reaching out with positive thoughts and prayers,” wrote Bernadette. “Obviously this is a very difficult time for our family. We appreciate you.. we may not contact everyone individually but we see your messages and we love and thank you all! We’ll keep you updated.. and thank you for your respect for our privacy at this time.”

Swae Lee has also paid tribute to his late stepfather, writing, “OG Gone live forever.”
