Tua Tagovailoa is entering the 2020 NFL Draft.

Tagovailoa and Nick Saban held a press conference at Alabama on Monday, and Saban praised the 21-year-old for all the contributions he has made to the program. Tagovailoa then announced that he has made the “difficult” decision to turn pro.

It’s worth noting that Tagovailoa also walked to the podium without crutches, which would be a good sign about his recovery from a hip injury that knocked him out for the season back in November.

Tagovailoa was once considered the favorite to be drafted first overall in 2020, but his latest significant injury led to speculation that he could return to Alabama for his senior season. The junior got fans excited during the College Football Playoff with some of his social media activity, and it’s possible he still had not made a decision at that point.

Assuming his recovery goes well, there’s no reason to expect Tagovailoa to slip outside the first round. His talent is undeniable, and reports have indicated he should be ready to throw for NFL teams before the draft. We see teams trade up to draft quarterbacks every year, and it would not be a surprise if that happened with Tua in a few months.
