Aaron Dean, who killed Atatiana Jefferson earlier this year, was booked into the Tarrant County Corrections Center and later released on a $200,000 bond, according to jail officials.

In a statement to NBC News,  Fort Worth police Sgt. Chris Daniels  said,

“To the citizens and residents of our city, we feel and understand your anger and your disappointment, and we stand by you as we work together to make Fort Worth a better place for us all.”

The arrest came just hours after Dean’s resignation from the police force. Interim police Chief Ed Kraus said during a press conference earlier that he intended to end Officer Aaron Dean’s employment, but that Dean tendered his resignation first.

Dean, who joined the department in April 2018, still faces possible civil rights violations, Kraus said.

“Had the officer not resigned, I would have fired him for violations for several policies, including our use of force policy, our de-escalation policy, and unprofessional conduct,” Kraus added.

Dean was placed on administrative leave after he shot Jefferson to death but he has not been cooperating with investigators in the case, Kraus said.

In a tweet, attorney for the Jefferson’s, Lee Merritt says the family is relieved and has a long way to go.

As we previously reported Dean gunned down 28-year-old Jefferson through her bedroom window while responding to a neighbor who requested that the department perform a welfare check. During the time of the shooting, the victim was playing video games with her 8-year-old nephew.
