Azealia Banks

It’s independence day for Azealia Banks. The “212″ rapper has been granted a release from her record label.

“IM ABOUT TO GET OUT OF MY DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THATS THE BIG SURPRISE!!!!!” an excited Banks told fans on Thursday.

“I’m feeling like miss celie at the end of color purple,” she added. “Free at last.”

Banks announced her signing to Universal Music in 2012. Her debut album Broke With Expensive Taste was never released, but it did spawn the singles “Yung Rapunxel” and the Pharrell-assisted “ATM Jam.”

In January, she took to Twitter to plead for a release from her label. “I’m literally begging to be dropped from Universal,” she tweeted. “Universal needs to just hand me over to another label who knows what to do with me.”

A dire Banks expressed her frustrations. “I’m tired of having to consult a group of old white guys about my black girl craft. they don’t even know what they’re listening for or to,” she said. “Can someone at Sony buy me off of Universal please?? i’m really in hell here.”

Her fans celebrated the good news. “THAT MEANS WE ARE FINALLY GONNA GET NEW MOTHERFUCKING MUSIC!!” tweeted one supporter.

So happy for @AZEALIABANKS right now, she's been waiting SO long for this

Prior to Universal, she was signed to U.K. imprint XL Recordings under the name Miss Bank$.

She is already working on new music. In June, she teased photos from the set of her “Wallace” music video.
