2dopeboyz Report post Posted March 12, 2014 Future’s sophomore album Honest is an emotional rollercoaster. You’ll laugh (see: Kanye's wisecracks on “I Won”), cry (the emo “Special”) and shout incoherently (“T-Shirt,” “Sh!t”). You might even sell a brick or two (“Move That Dope”). VIBE got an early listen of Future’s much-anticipated new album (out April 22) and left pleasantly surprised. Here’s a sampling of a half-dozen tracks you need to hear at least once, at max volume, of course. Pray to Based God that he debuts some of these this week at SXSW. —John Kennedy “Benz Friendz (Whatchutola)” feat. Andre 3000 Why you need to hear it: Because Three Stacks enters Future’s world of ratchet Future’s manager Orlando tells VIBE that Andre was sitting in the studio, soaking up Future’s energy, when the OutKast legend jumped up, walked into the booth and just laid down a hook. “I told that bitch I don't give a fuck about a damn ho,” Andre riffs. Atop epic choir vocals, swinging violins and the same bouncy baseline as Yung Joc’s “It’s Goin’ Down,” Dungeon Family relatives of past and present create a hard, radio-ready heater. “I Won” feat. Kanye West Why you need to hear it: Because Kanye is on it (duh) and he’s shading Kim K’s past Originally dubbed “Trophy Wife,” this Metro Boomin-produced track finds Future and Yeezy toasting to the sweetest of arm candies over clashing snares and elephant feet drums. “I just want to take you out and show you off, you already know that you the perfect one,” Future croaks, with Ciara on the brain. “Got me feeling like a champion.” Kanye jumps in to kick dirt on wifey Kim K.’s exes: “I made it over NFL/NBA nigga, so its like I won the Super Bowl.” “Covered N Money” Why you need to hear it: Because it will be a strip club anthem True to its name, the stuttered 808s alone make this record a no-brainer for King of Diamonds. “Never Satisfied” feat. Drake Why you need to hear it: Because Drake and Future channel their inner Jodeci (really) Mike WiLL Made It brings cryptic keys and haunting vocals, while Drizzy and Future Vandross elaborate on why their thirst for the finer things in life can never be quenched. Oh, and there’s this gem from Drake: “Me and Future could probably start a crewww/On some K-Ci & JoJo shit have these bitches looooose.” “My Momma” ft. Wiz Khalifa Why you need to hear it: Because it will birth the next official club chant Don’t be misled by the title: This high-energy track is no sappy, Auto-Tuned dedication to Mama Future. Instead, it’ll have you saluting mom dukes in a whole ’nother way. “My mama ain't raise no ho!” Be ready to shout that in repetition at the top of your lungs. “Special” Why you need to hear it: Because haven’t we all been here before? Future is all in his feelings on this one, reflecting on a significant other who isn’t what she seems. “You ain’t even trying to be special/I thought you was somebody special,” he croons over somber strings. Be sure to see Future in all his turnt-up splendor at SPIN's annual South By Southwest day party at Stubb's on Friday (March 14).
