The media, fans and NASA are criticizing Beyonce for lack of judgment on a sensitive subject. Beyonce and her co-writer The Dream used a audio clip from the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion at the beginning of her song “XO”.

The space agency released a statement:

“The Challenger accident is an important part of our history; a tragic reminder that space exploration is risky and should never be trivialized,” said the statement from Lauren B. Worley, NASA’s press secretary. “NASA works every day to honor the legacy of our fallen astronauts as we carry out our mission to reach for new heights and explore the universe.”

Beyonce also released a statement:

“My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Challenger disaster,” the pop singer says in an exclusive statement released by ABC News. “The song ‘XO’ was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones and to remind us that unexpected things happen, so love and appreciate every minute that you have with those who mean the most to you.”

NASA public affairs officer, Steve Nesbitt who reported the tragedy stated, “Flight controllers here looking very carefully at the situation”. Nesbitt voice is heard at the beginning of the song, stating, “Obviously a major malfunction.”

June Scobee Rogers, widow of Challenger Space Shuttle Commander Dick Scobee says she is “disappointed in the singer’s decision to include the clip.”

Former NASA employee and now head of NASAWatch.com, Keith Cowing would like Beyonce to remove the clip from “XO.”

Beyonce recently released a self-titled album, XO” is the tenth track on the album. The song was written and produced by The Dream and Ryan Tedder.

We will continue to update you on what Ms.Bey will do about this controversy.
