Beloved ‘Fresh Prince’ father James Avery Dead At 65

We are sad to report the death of beloved actor James Avery. On January 1, 2014, Avery died from complications following surgery for an undisclosed illness. James Avery was famous as Uncle Phil on the show ‘Fresh Prince”.

TMZ.com reports:

“James Avery — the beloved dad on “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” — has died at age 65 .. TMZ has learned.

Sources close to the actor tell TMZ he died in an L.A. hospital last night. Avery had recently undergone surgery for an undisclosed illness and took a turn for the worse late yesterday.

And we’re told his wife, Barbara, had been at his bedside but left for a short period of time to get something to eat. When she came back, she learned he had just died.”

Alfonso Ribeiro co-starred with Avery in the hit television show Fresh Prince tweeted, “deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly.”

DJ Jazzy Jeff tweeted, “RIP James Avery…Thank U for the talks,travel tips and the jazz cd’s. A great Friend and Even Better Person…You will be Missed!! #FPOB”.

Tatiana Ali tweeted, “James was my teacher my protector & the most magnificent actor. We’re feeling his loss very deeply. He’ll always be apart of me #JamesAvery”.

Mr.Avery was ranked #34 in TV Guide’s “50 Greatest TV Dads of All Time.” He also did the voice of of Shredder in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles television series. He was also guest starred in That ’70s Show as Officer Kennedy. He guest starred on the television series That’s So Raven where he played an entrepreneur.

In combination of sitcoms, voice over work, and film James Avery managed to remain relevant in a TV industry, and he will be deeply missed.
