If Drake’s new single “Wu-Tang Forever” has proven anything, it’s that Wu fans are nuts. Tough, critical, full-blown fanatics. Yet for those underwhelmed by the Shaolin flavor of Drake’s latest, the remix should provide some yearned-for shadowboxing.

The Clan has recorded verses to 40’s instrumental in Europe earlier this summer, original Wu member U-God tells VIBE exclusively.

“They wanted us to remix it and get on there [so] you gon’ probably hear another one with us on it,” says U-God, shortly after landing in San Francisco to perform at Rock The Bells on Sunday. “Meth did his verse—we all did our verses. I wrote my rhyme in probably 15, 20 minutes. We were moving so fast we only had about four hours of studio time. If I had some time to really sit down and get juicy with it, I probably could've got juicier with it. But I still do a nice one, I still do a real banger.”

The Nothing Was The Same cut, which samples “It’s Yourz” from the Staten Island crew’s sophomore album Wu-Tang Forever, makes references to Raekwon’s “machine gun rap” opening lines from the original. Rae, as well as the official Wu-Tang Clan Twitter account have already expressed support for the track.

“I’ve been bigging up Drake for a while,” says U-God, whose dropped his Keynote Speaker LP in July. “Plus he [sampled] the song that me and Rae jumped off so it made me feel real good. I've been in the game a long time and I really don't get that much love. It’s positive.”

But here's where things get murky. It seems like it's not all love ringing from the Wu-Tang ranks. Inspectah Deck took to Twitter yesterday to address the track, which was seemingly new to him.

GM fam! Woke up to a lot of @Drake disses... WTH? The homey did a song about us right? Is that not love/respect? Or did I miss sum'n?

After listening to the @Drake song, I agree with u... It is in no form a tribute to WU and SHOULD NOT wear the title Wutang Forever!

And this is after telling FUSE last weekend in San Bernardino, Calif. that the track is "a good look for us." There is no word yet on whether Inspectah Deck was present for the recording of the remix or if Will Smith shined him with that red flashy thing from Men In Black and wiped his memory clean.

As for Wu’s angry killer bee hive fans hate-tweeting "Wu-Tang Forever," U-God laughs off the slander.

“Our fans are some of the hardest fucking critics ever,” he says with a chuckle. “You try something new, they get mad at you. I love my fans but we have some real meticulous hard fans... If I do a song with Prince, Wu-Tang fans are going to be mad. They really don't like us meshing with nobody else.”

U-God continues: “I tell my fans, you gotta let it ride. We want to get together with people and have fun, man. I'm tired of us being looked at like we're unapproachable or antisocial. My Wu Tang fans need to chill and just let bygones be bygones.”
